How much is that piggy?

You may have noticed I changed the banner photo up there.  The photo is courtesy of Jane Windsor, who took the photos for a piece I wrote on Brooklyn for BA Horizons magazine in South Africa. It’s an interior shot of Spring in DUMBO, where you can ogle fresh, genre-bending design from all over the world.

You can’t see it fully, but on the right is a now-famous piggy bank that has been showing up in design and interior circles for a little while. More about the piggy:

It was designed by Harry Allen. Spring sells a gold-plated version made from the cast of a real pig. Five percent of the proceeds from each sale goes to the Humane Society of the United States. That’s pretty cool.

Oh, and the pig is $190 if you buy it from Spring.
